A Historic Milestone: Our Federal Christian Heritage Month Campaign Is Back on Track

Today, we have exciting news to share with supporters across Canada.

 

On June 9th, Senator Leo Housakos introduced Bill S-249 in the Senate of Canada, marking a major step forward in our journey to establish Christian Heritage Month as a federally recognized observance.

 

This is more than a legislative milestone.

 

It is the continuation of a movement that has grown from a vision into a national campaign, uniting Christians, churches, community leaders, and supporters from coast to coast.

 

Today, we celebrate.

 

But today, we also reflect on how far we have come together.

 

Many of you will remember that in December 2024, MP Jean Yip introduced a Motion in the House of Commons recognizing Christian Heritage Month. The Motion received bipartisan support and was gaining momentum across party lines. It was on a clear path toward success when Parliament was dissolved prematurely, causing the Motion to die on the Order Paper before a final vote could take place.

 

For many campaigns, that would have been the end of the story.

 

For us, it was simply the beginning of the next chapter.

 

Because this movement was never built on a single vote, a single politician, or a single moment.

 

It was built by people of faith who believed that the Christian contributions to Canada deserved to be recognized, celebrated, and remembered.

 

It was built through prayer.

 

It was built through perseverance.

 

It was built through unity.

 

And it was built through action.

 

What began as a vision has become one of the most successful grassroots faith initiatives in Canada. Through the leadership of the Christian Heritage Month Initiative, official recognition has already been achieved in dozens of municipalities, regional governments, and the Provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta. Thousands of Canadians have engaged with elected officials, signed petitions, shared information, and championed this cause within their communities.

 

More than 40,000 supporters have now added their voices to this movement.

 

That is not just a number.

 

It represents pastors who spoke from their pulpits.

 

Families who shared the message around their dinner tables.

 

Volunteers who gave countless hours.

 

Community leaders who opened doors.

 

Elected officials who listened.

 

And Canadians from every walk of life who believed that Christian heritage remains an important part of our nation’s story.

 

Before recognizing any individual leadership, it is important to honour the dedicated volunteers who have faithfully stood behind this movement from the beginning. Many have worked quietly behind the scenes, making phone calls, organizing meetings, gathering signatures, speaking with elected officials, coordinating events, sharing information, praying faithfully, and investing countless hours without seeking recognition. Their dedication, sacrifice, and commitment have helped transform a vision into a national movement. We are deeply grateful for every volunteer who has carried this mission forward and helped bring us to this historic moment.

 

None of this would have been possible without the strong advocacy, tenacious leadership, and unwavering commitment of Molly Banerjei, Founder of the Christian Heritage Month Initiative.

 

For years, Molly has worked tirelessly to build relationships, engage government leaders, mobilize supporters, and advance this vision with courage, humility, and determination. Through victories, setbacks, and countless challenges, she has remained steadfast in her belief that Christian heritage deserves recognition at every level of government in Canada.

 

Today, we are witnessing the fruit of that perseverance.

 

As we celebrate this exciting milestone, it is also important that we steward this vision and the years of work that have brought us to this moment.

 

God has entrusted us with a responsibility not only to advance this cause but also to protect its integrity.

 

Stewardship is not about seeking recognition. It is about preserving the truth. It is about honouring the sacrifices, prayers, leadership, and efforts that have made this progress possible. It is about ensuring that future generations understand how this movement was built and the countless people who helped carry it forward.

 

As our campaign continues to grow, we encourage supporters to share the story accurately and confidently. The strength of any movement depends on the integrity of its story.

 

We are strongest when we work together.

 

That simple truth has carried us through every challenge and every victory.

 

It is why we have come this far.

 

And it is how we will finish the journey.

 

While Bill S-249 represents a tremendous step forward, our work is not yet complete.

 

The Bill must still proceed through the legislative process and ultimately receive Royal Assent before it becomes law.
